When people think of this part of the Middle East, the religions that often come to mind are either Judaism or Islam. Although Christians are a minority in the Holy Land, making up about 2.3 percent of the population, they actually have deep roots and connections to this area. Some can even trace their history back to the early church. We believe that meeting these fellow believers will be a highly enriching and challenging experience, as they will offer new perspectives on devotion to God.
We provide two options for meeting these families:
Option one, which is the opportunity we recommend, is to actually stay in the home of a Christian family in Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, or Beit Jala (all within a half-hour drive) for the duration of your time here. We have approximately 90 families registered to host international guests. Families here are famous for their hospitality and love to lavish their guests with incredible food. They have all hosted guests before and are very understanding and tolerant of cultural differences. By opting to stay with a family, you are also helping to support them, as they receive compensation for hosting you.
Option two is to have a meal with a local Christian family in their home. We will arrange for this meal to take place in the late afternoon/evening so that you have the day free for travel or service. Enjoying a home-cooked meal is a great way to get an idea of traditional cuisine. Some families may even be open to teaching you their recipes.
We guarantee that both of these options will be rewarding and great opportunities to ask questions and broaden your perspectives.
